AXES OF TRANSMISSION
Ongoing artistic research, 2026–2028
Emerging from Ina Otzko's artistic practice in Svalbard and a research residency at LABSONORA in the Brazilian Amazon in 2026, AXES OF TRANSMISSION investigates relationships between distant places, bodies and systems of communication.
Moving between the Arctic and the Amazon, the project explores how ecological, technological and geopolitical forces connect territories that appear geographically remote yet are deeply interdependent.
Through listening, field recordings, embodied encounters and site-responsive research, the work considers what travels across distance, what connects seemingly separate environments, and what remains unheard, unseen or beyond human perception.
The research is developing into new works across sound, moving image and installation, with exhibitions planned for 2028.
38 PILLARS
Work in development
Initiated during a two-month Nordic Music Residency at the Arvo Pärt Centre in Estonia in 2025, supported by Nordic Culture Point, 38 PILLARS explores the relationship between listening, architecture, resonance and memory.
Designed by Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos, the centre's architecture draws upon the silence and geometry of Arvo Pärt's music. The work emerges from activating the 38 architectural pillars surrounding the chapel through sound, incorporating field recordings from Laulasmaa and an extended engagement with the building’s atmosphere, library and Pärt’s artistic legacy.
Approaching architecture as a resonant body, the project is being developed into a spatial sound installation, exploring what becomes audible when a building inspired by music is itself invited to sound.
